This includes repointing with lime mortar, repairing stonework, and ensuring that any new materials used are compatible with the original construction. Our conservation efforts aim to maintain a building’s historical integrity while allowing these buildings to continue serving as homes and community landmarks.

Lime has been a fundamental material in traditional Welsh construction.  Lime, specifically, is valued for its breathability and flexibility, which are crucial for the preservation of historic buildings. Unlike modern cement, lime mortar allows buildings to “breathe,” reducing the risk of trapped moisture and subsequent damage.

Pure Lime was commonly used in the construction of most Welsh cottages. This technique involves mixing lime with local aggregates to create a mortar that binds the stones together while allowing for thermal expansion. The use of lime also contributes to the aesthetic appeal of these cottages, giving them a distinctive, aged appearance that blends seamlessly with the natural landscape.
